From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
